In her role, Nubia also oversees the Office of New Americans where she is responsible for immigration policy and programming throughout Chicago to ensure the city remains a welcoming one. Nubia's work includes leading the City's census efforts, increasing language access, working with community stakeholders to increase services for Chicago's immigrant and refugee communities and creating engagement opportunities for residents in all 77 community areas.

Prior to joining the Mayor's Office, Nubia worked at Legal Aid Chicago. At Legal Aid Chicago, Nubia supervised the immigration project in the Immigrants and Workers' Rights Practice Group. She represented survivors of gender-based crimes, migrant workers, human trafficking survivors, and low-wage workers seeking immigration and employment relief.
