February at ROCO Chicago unfolded as a steady expression of purpose — leadership taking shape, traditions carried forward, and community strengthened through shared effort.
Across programs and gatherings, one theme was unmistakable: growth happens when people step forward for one another.
This month marked the beginning of the third year of ROCO Impact Club - our weekly service learning program, led with intention and care by Adina Sandu and Camelia Salajean. This program continues to cultivate responsibility, empathy and initiative — reminding us that leadership is not a moment, but a process shaped over time.
At our monthly ROCO Teens Leadership meeting, juniors and seniors — Horia Dobrean-Urzica, David Bora, Matei Busu, Stephanie Salajean, and Justin Luput — led an open, thoughtful discussion on SAT and ACT preparation. More than strategies were exchanged; experience, encouragement, and perspective were offered generously. When students mentor students, confidence multiplies and community deepens.
For our younger community members, Dimineți cu Povești (Storytelling Mornings) brought language and imagination together in warm, meaningful ways. We extend heartfelt thanks for guidance to our leads Adriana Rosca and Anca Fodor and to our February storytellers: Maria Molnar, Camelia Coca, Gabriela Cosma and Gina Prunuta, who led a special Mărțișor edition welcoming Spring and Romanian tradition.
Our Learn Romanian language program, coordinated by Gabriela Cosma and led by by Anca Butas and Gabi Hanta, continued to anchor families in language, heritage, and identity.
February also offered moments of cultural reflection and adult connection. Uncork Romania, thoughtfully coordinated by Irina Nedeljkovic, created space for discovery and celebration.
A particularly meaningful highlight was our Brâncuși in Chicago: A ROCO Group Visit at the Art Institute of Chicago to honor Constantin Brâncuși on the 150th anniversary of his birth. We extend our gratitude to hosts and to all participants who joined in commemorating one of Romania’s most influential artists. Standing before his work together, we were reminded that heritage endures when it is experienced collectively.
Behind every visible program stands careful planning and strategic intention. ROCO’s Core Team (Oana Dobrean-Urzica, Cristina Haidau, Adina Sandu) and committed chapter leaders — continue to cultivate new opportunities for meaningful impact across our community.
February did not simply demonstrate activity. It was a month that reflected continuity, stewardship, and forward momentum. It affirmed that leadership grows when nurtured, culture flourishes when shared, and community strengthens when individuals choose to build together.
A vibrant community is never incidental — it is shaped, sustained, and renewed through collective commitment.
We are grateful to every individual who contributed to this month’s unfolding story.
