About the Workshop
Welcome to our exciting Computing Workshop Series, designed specifically for teenagers!
This program offers a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating world of computers, virtualization, and web technologies that will set the foundation for further know-how courses in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, and robotics.
The Course consists of 4 weeks for more than 20 hours of training - see details below.
Program Overview
Week 1: Unix and Linux Fundamentals
Introduction to Unix (FreeBSD) and Linux (Debian), file systems, permissions, users, and groups.
Basic command line interface, navigating the terminal, basic commands, and utilities.
Installation of desktop and server applications for education, science, and business.
Week 2: Networking Fundamentals
Network topologies, protocols, and network security.
Configuring a simple network, and understanding network security.
Understanding network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), and network device configuration.
Hands-on exercise: Configuring network devices, and understanding network protocols.
Week 3: Web Technology
Introduction to web servers (Apache and NGINX), and web development basics.
Setting up a simple web server, creating a basic web page.
Understanding HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, creating a more complex web page.
Hands-on exercise: Creating a web page using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Week 4: Cloud Computing and Review
Introduction to cloud computing, virtualization, and review of all topics.
Trainee presentations, review of all topics, and final Q&A session.
Cost
- $250/Student for ROCO members
- $500/Student for Non-Members
The Course consists of 4 Weeks for more than 20 hours of Training. There is no refund for withdrawal or absence. However, we will provide online access to some of the courses, and try to accommodate circumstances when a student cannot come for one hands-on course.

Instructors
Dorin Ilie Acu PhD - Have architected and implemented IT infrastructures in Businesses and Clinics. Though he has been a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer since the late 90s, he is deploying all infrastructures based on Linux and FreeBSD - Unix. The current focus is on providing integrated private artificial intelligence systems for business, biomedical, and clinical entities, as well as for personal use.
