About the speaker

Brighid O'Shaughnessy is a seasoned mental health professional and the founder of Return to the Roots, where she empowers youth and adults to cultivate emotional intelligence and build healthy relationships. With nearly 25 years of experience in the field, Brighid holds a Master's in Social Work from the University of Chicago, focusing on trauma and neuroscience, along with a graduate certificate in Restorative Justice in Education. Currently serving as a Restorative Practices Coach at Stevenson Elementary School in Chicago, Brighid is dedicated to creating equitable environments for all students, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds. Her work emphasizes the importance of repairing harm and fostering understanding among peers. Before her role in education, Brighid founded Erasing the Distance, a non-profit that used documentary theater to raise awareness about mental health issues, reaching over 55,000 people nationwide. Her innovative approach has garnered numerous accolades, including the 3Arts Vision Award and recognition as one of America's top 200 Heroic Leaders by Extra Mile America. In addition to her advocacy and coaching, Brighid is a passionate Nia practitioner and teacher, using movement to help individuals reconnect with their bodies and emotions. She believes that through movement and storytelling, participants can reclaim their inner strength and navigate their emotional landscapes more effectively. Brighid's engaging workshops inspire teens to explore their emotions, develop resilience, and build meaningful connections with others.

We meet, we talk, and we have fun. Every month we discuss a different topic of interest, and we may watch some videos and have guided discussions.

At every meetup, we have time to socialize, play games, watch a movie, or we may have a little party.

Any young adult 13+ to 18, passionate about becoming a leader and/or happy to connect with other Romanian-American Teens.
